| What kind of ministry will you be developing? It has been a great joy for us to host many varied and wonderful teams, whether they were comprised mostly of adults or youth or an even mixture. Some teams have been strictly men's teams, and others for women. We have found that the Lord finds a place for everyone to be at work on the mission field. Something special happens cross-culturally when Americans come and share in this third world culture. There are great spiritual needs represented in the Dominican Republic. The World Almanac shows that only 5% of the population are considered evangelical. In our area, surveys show less than 1%. The churches can use whatever help can be provided. Women's ministries are badly needed, as are special programs for children. Because income levels are so low, medical help, and construction help is sorely lacking. The Dominican youth are often challenged to creativity for Christ as teams minister with dramas, mimes, and puppets. Pastors appreciate the U.S. teams that come and bring testimonies and share the Word of God. Often long-term friendships are made. Most of our work is centered in the Cibao region, the central valley area of the country. Interpreters are provided to facilitate the work or ministry. |
We have been heavily involved in construction over the years, and this is an ongoing trend. When the minimum wage is less than $200 a month, it is so costly for church members to move forward in meeting construction needs. How wonderful when a church from the U.S. can partner in a project. It is costing as little as $10000 U.S. to build a sanctuary that will hold 75 to 100 members. Usually churches are built in phases, with different teams coming and sharing in the project, each one assuming part of the material costs. ![]() What a satisfaction to help with construction needs! |
![]() We are currently networking with La Vega Christian School. The campus has been built almost entirely with volunteer support and help. In the summer of 2000 nearly 250 youth and adult volunteers gave a week of their lives to see this project move forward. The school is a place of ministry opportunities to the over 300 children enrolled. Pray and ask the Lord, "What can we do to help?" It is important to prayerfully decide what God is calling your team to do to help expand God's kingdom in the Dominican Republic! |
