Mitch and Debbie Martinez, Your Missionaries to the Dominican Republic
|

Congratulations Seniors!
| It was a great honor and pleasure to conduct the graduation ceremonies for the first graduating Senior class of La Vega Christian School (LVCS). After passing their comprehensive national exams, Debbie presented them with their diplomas this August. We had three graduates. Pictured with Debbie above are two of them, Denisse Tineo and Manuel (Manny) Sosa. Our third graduate, Jonathon Diaz was not present as he had enrolled in the National Army. |
LVCS was one of only three schools in the district whose 12th graders had all passed the exams. The 8th grade class (ten students) also passed their tests to enter High School. We were certainly proud of them. It spoke highly of the school's academic worth, and reflects our quality Christian staff.
Pray for Debbie as classes opened in September with 350 students, a new record high. |

Construction Continues
After an intense two months of heavy construction, the high school program was moved into the new third story. Mitch's construction experience was stretched to the maximum as four classrooms and a science lab area were completed. Different teams from the U.S. helped with funds and workers to meet the September deadline.
Among those that helped was the group from McEver Road United Methodist Church, Gainesville, GA. Pastor Steve Hastings from First Assembly of God, Monroe, NC spent 3 weeks with us. Helping Hands Ministries arrived with Founder Ted Griner. He was here with a ministry team to work, and help with finances. |
A number of individuals helped provide the funds for this project. This could not have been done without the help and prayers of God's people.
Unfortunately, we did not have the finances to tile the bare concrete floors. Please pray as we seek sponsors to help with the costs of labor and material for the floors at $600 for each classroom.
Mitch is praying that help and finances will come to finish the third floor next Summer (2003). Four more classrooms will be added at a cost of about $30,000 US. We still depend on work teams to keep costs at a minimum. There is a packet for teams at our website. |

The third story addition is being used,
though exterior stucco work is still unfinished.

Sponsorship Impacting the Youth
| We are excited with how the sponsorship program is growing. Among the new students this year were five young people from Fuente De Vida Church in Arenoso. Pastor Louis Sollecito has a burden to see his young people impacted with a good Christian environment and a quality education. Currently there are over sixty children who receive at least 1/2 scholarships in the program. Many of them would never have the opportunity to study in a private school if not for the kindness and generosity of their sponsors. |
If you would like to sponsor a child, please write Debbie at our field address or e-mail her at:
dominicanmissions@hotmail.com
Half scholarships start at $20 US monthly.
God Bless You!

It has been our pleasure to work the past 10 years in the Dominican Republic. Besides our involvement in the Christian school, in media ministries, and training ministers, we have also planted three churches in the area. We are excited about returning this term as full-time nationally appointed missionaries. We will be involved again in church-planting, teaching at Bible Institutes, and also developing a Christian television program upon our return.
We have one roadblock to returning right now. We still lack about $600 US in monthly pledges. If you are receiving this report and have not sent in a pledge form, please consider supporting this worthy ministry. To speed us on our way, please fill out the pledge form and mail it in with your offering. We covet your prayers.
God Bless You! |
