Missions Update

Large Media Conference held in Bolivia

It was exciting to be able to attend COICOM in Santa Cruz , Bolivia , Nov. 1st - 4th. COICOM is the yearly conference for Latin American Christian Communicators and Broadcasters. We thank those friends who donated the funds to help make this trip possible. A special priv ile ge was to be able to bring Elias Castillo from the Dominican Republic with us. It was his first time traveling to another nation. Elias is the young man who has been helping us in the development of the media center in La Vega. It was great to have our son Paul accompany us .

Paul, Elias and Mitch at Coicom 2005 He is in his third year of college and is majoring in Communications (television and radio production), with a minor in Missions. We attended various workshops and were impacted by the need for good quality Christian TV programming. On hand were representatives from Spanish CBN (700 Club), Focus on the Family, Transworld Radio, HCJB (the Voice of the Andes ), Luis Palau Ministries. Among the key speakers was Evangelist Paul Finkenbinder (Hermano Pablo). He shared how his ministry began and how God has used his program to impact the Spanish speaking world. Also on hand was Argentinean Evangelist Alberto Montesi, who appealed to Hispanics to reach out in Missions and Media. Another highlight were the musicians who ministered daily in the sessions. It was a great conference!

A Call for Missions Volunteers

Fundraising is going slowly but we are half way there in monthly support and 30% of our cash budget has been raised. Our goal is to be ready to return by mid-summer. The key to all this are individuals and churches that are willing to make a pledge to support this ministry. If you already support us, will you consider raising your pledge amount?
How Can I Help?

As Mitch and Debbie minister in churches throughout the S outheast an emphasis on recruiting missions volunteers is being made. With the anticipated ministry needs for the coming summer, we are asking God for 10 volunteers for the La Vega area. Included in these are 3 volunteers to help with teaching English in La Vega Christian School and helping with coaching . Spanish is not necessary, though certainly helpful.

Two media positions for the TV Studio that is being developed are needed . At least one Spanish speaking musician to help with worship at the new inner city church that Mitch and Debbie will be planting. Also, four individuals to help form a church planting team. They will work with evangelism, and an outreach to youth and children.

Project Needs Continue in La Vega

Many churches have expressed an interest in helping with different projects in the Dominican Republic . The following is a list of needs we will be addressing as we return in 2006.

In Soto, funds are needed to pour a concrete floor for the church and also to repair some damage in the walls caused by strong tremors two years ago. An estimate for this project is $2000.

In Villa Rosa, La Vega, the new church there is almost finished and needs $2000 for sealing the concrete roof. We are hoping to be there this year for a church inauguration.

In La Cuesta there is an abandoned parsonage that needs repairs and new windows and doors. We thank Pastor Roger Quisenberry and his congregation from Walterboro , South Carolina , who helped repair the church there last year. We need about $3000 for parsonage repair costs.

In the city of Esperanza there is a church that is in need of help in an expansion program that will open the doors for a Christian School to be formed. The second story will be turned into offices and classrooms. Our estimates are about $20,000 for this project. The congregation has raised about $4000.00 already.

In La Vega, the Antioquia Church is in bad need of a reconstruction of its Sunday school classrooms. Their walls are termite ridden and water damaged and badly need a concrete block replacement. Estimates are running about $5000.00 for this project. Please call us if you would like to help these needy congregations!

In Los Rieles, a team from Anderson University helps with construction needs and also painting the Church

What A Blessing to Visit Churches

Pastor Goncalves and Family

It is really a joy for us to visit churches to thank them for their prayers and support and share about the victories our Lord has given us.
Last week we were at a Portuguese speaking church in Charlotte , NC . We ministered through an interpreter. It was a joy to meet P astor Goncalves and his wife and children. That afternoon we min i stered in Greenville , South Carolina . Next week we will be in Fort Myers , Florida and minister at two churches there. Usually we minister in at least five churches in South Carolina a month. We have averaged 10 services a month since September. We will slow down some in December and spend some quality time with family. Then continue in January with the busy schedule we have been keeping. We still have dates open for services in the months of February to May of 2006. Our goal is to return in June or July for another four year missions term. If you would like for us to minister in your church please do not hesitate to ask us to speak with your pastor.
