Martinez Happenings
Mitch and Debbie Martinez Your Missionaries to the Dominican Republic Spring 2006

Media Center Progress

It was a great pleasure to be in La Vega in March with a ministry team that oversaw the installation of the air conditioning system for the TV production studio, and also the windows and doors for the second floor of the Media Center building.

The real excitement in this project are the TV programs that will be produced here to minister to families and youth.
Currently stucco work has begun on the outside of the media building.
We will need nearly $3,000.00 US for this work.  In the studio and editing rooms we need to finish painting and then we will be ready to begin bringing in the studio equipment.  We are hoping a team from Calvary Academy (Lakewood, NJ), will be on hand in May to help with the finishing touches downstairs and upstairs.
The exterior walls upstairs have their windows and doors in.  Inside we still need some block walls laid and the rough-in plumbing and electrical done.   Also the final stucco work is needed.
We were blessed with the donation of Helping Hands Ministry, $2800.00 towards the Media Center project.  The founder, Reverend Ted Griner has always helped us with windows and doors in all our projects. Another  large donation was given by Calvin Fortner, another good friend who has been making an impact here in the Dominican Republic.  He provided $1200.00 needed for the purchase of the air conditioner for the main studio.
We are excited about returning in July, and have our hearts set on getting the TV programs started again by September.

Villa Rosa Church is Dedicated!

Lousianna recovers with God's help

Pastor Luis thanks those who prayed for Luisanna. As you can see she has  recovered from Dengue fever.
well!

On the 17th of March, Rev. Gerald Bohler, Rev. Raymond Jacobs, Rev. Ted Griner, Rev. Wayne Rice, Calvin Fortner, and Kris Morgan, were on hand to dedicate the sanctuary of the Esmirna Misionera Church in Villa Rosa, La Vega.  Mitch interpreted Rev. Bohler’s dedication day message. This trip to the Dominican Republic was in response to a request by the Pastor Carlos Jiménez.

He wanted to dedicate his new sanctuary to the Lord, and hoped that some of the donors for the project could be there.  It had been three years since the project was started and almost $12,000.00  had been donated.  Rev. Bohler and Calvin Fortner were the two who really carried this project financially.  The congregation still needs help finishing the floor ($3000.00 US) and lights and fans($ 950.00 US).

La Vega Christian School News

Some of our students write the most touching letters to their sponsors.  Their expressions of love and appreciation are sincere.  One mother quoted this verse:

“He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.” Proverbs 19:17
During our recent trip we ministered in the school chapel and classrooms.  I was so blessed by the school worship team.  Elias wants me to find some guitars and a keyboard for them.  These young people love God, and aren’t ashamed to let it be known!
We received a surprise visit from Journey Assembly in Bradenton, who ministered with puppets to the younger students.

We took new basketballs and volleyballs for the P.E. teacher.  It turns out we are in third place in the local sports competition! Pray for one of our sponsored students, Kilsis Garcia, who would like a volleyball scholarship to a Christian college in the U.S. for next year.

Playground
Chapel Service

The preschool playground looks like lots of fun thanks to the new equipment we have sent down, including a swing set donated by Praise Assembly in Beaufort.

We are blessed to have two new volunteers.  Earl and Shirley Featsent moved down last January from Pennsylvania. They are busy teaching and helping around the school.  Earl is helping with maintenance and put the pre-school gym together.  We are so thankful for the people the Lord sends to help us in the ministry.  We are asking the Lord for 8 more volunteers for next year.

A special thanks to all who answered our plea for a donation to the Ruthie Martinez Children’s Fund.  You are an answer to prayer. There are still a few more students who need sponsors.  Contact us at lavegaschool@gmail.com and make a difference in a child’s life! or click here.

We Love Pastors and Their Wives

Don’t you think pastors’ wives are some of the most hard-working and under-appreciated people on the planet?  Chris Bean and God’s Pocket Ministry  in N. Ft. Myers, FL dreamed up a way to bless our pastors’ wives.  They provided  a pajama party for 8 pastors’ wives in La Vega!  We ate, shared stories, played games, and had a powerful time of prayer.  They were overwhelmed with the beautiful gifts.

The best part was the sweet fellowship.  When we know each other better, we are more capable of lifting one another’s burdens. We discovered that we can comfort one another with the comfort God has given us during the hardest times of our lives.  No experience the Lord permits is ever wasted in ministry.
Pray about a way to bless your pastor’s wife this week!
